IRMA holds brainstorming sessions through seminars and workshops

Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) students are witnessing major brainstorming sessions through seminars and workshop with experienced and learned figures from different fields in recent past week.

Executive director of Tata Sons, R Gopalakrishnan gave a lecture on agricultural development and also elaborated on ideas from his recently published book “The Case of the Bonsai Manager” with IRMA students.

While on August 3, chief executive officer and managing director of National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd (NCDEX) PH Ravikumar also visited IRMA campus and presented his talk on “Role of Commodity Exchanges in a Developing Economy”.

Gopalakrishnan, also vice chairman of Tata Chemicals and director of several Tata Group companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Power held detailed closed-door interaction with IRMA Chairman Prof YK Alagh and director Prof Vivek Bhandari on matters pertaining to agricultural development.

Ravikumar, with over 30 years of experience in banking, spanning both grassroots level as well as at administrative level, both in India and abroad, mainly talked about important role that the commodity exchanges play in changing the face of agriculture in India’s developing economy.

Stressing that India was a very important agricultural producer in the world, Ravikumar said India has the potential to become price setter for several commodities such as cereals, pulses and spices.

He also outlined the innovations introduced by NCDEX in the form of developing spot market and weather stations to enable weather insurance for the farmers.

He also requested IRMA to help the sector through its researches.
