The Organisation:
The Lok Capital initiative is a Venture Capital Fund with the objective to
(a) mobilize and direct private (mainly equity) capital to fund
micro-finance activities in India; (b) fund/provide long term management and
technical support for the development of commercially sustainable MFIs
(microfinance institutions). Lok Capital has raised the first India focused
venture fund managed by local professionals, with a significant
on-the-ground presence, capable of making long-term equity investments in,
and delivering effective non-financial local assistance to MFIs in India.
The Fund's investors include international development institutions,
including CDC Group PLC, IFC, KfW, FMO and ACCION Investments.
The Opportunity:
Working in a team of 4-5 investment professionals, the key roles of
Investment Analyst will be:
Investment Analysis – Independently handle the due diligence process to
analyze microfinance investment opportunities and make formal
recommendations to Fund's investment committee to buy, hold or divest. This
task will entail evaluating business plans & financial statements, creating
financial models, conducting valuations and presenting analysis to
Investment Committee.
Relationship Management – Initiate and manage relationships with MFI
(microfinance institutions) partners/investments and other financial
institutional partners like private sector banks.
Financial Reporting - Monitor performance of investments, including
tracking of key performance indicators and prepare periodic reports on
investments.
Investment Analyst will play a leading role in pioneering a private equity
model designed specifically for Microfinance sector. By identifying and
developing attractive businesses, the Analyst will directly contribute to
the much-needed development of the Microfinance sector in India. Through
this position, he/she will be in contact with some of the sector experts,
allowing great opportunities for learning. The Analyst will have the
opportunity to be a part of small organization in its early stages and hence
a lot of scope to drive new strategies and help shape this entrepreneurial
venture.
Location: New Delhi, India.
Requirements:
- Proven ability as a mid-level financial analyst, facile with numbers
and able to communicate clearly about current and proposed investments both
verbally and in writing.
- 2-5 years of experience in Indian microfinance/ banking/ financial/
investment sector.
- Comfort with retrieving and crunching data and expressing it in
useful format.
- Good interpersonal skills to be able to interact with and build
relationships with senior management of investee companies and other partner
organizations.
- An advanced degree in field relevant to Lok Capital's mission, such
as an MBA, combined with work experience.
- Comfort with multi-tasking, entrepreneurial/ start-up environment.
- Ability to deal with multiple moving parts of different investments
and at the same time keep the bigger picture in perspective.
- Willingness to spend extended period of time with the MFIs in the
field
