HEAD-CLIMATE SECURITY PROJECT

OVERVIEW

The British Council was established in 1934 and is the United Kingdom's leading cultural relations organization. It currently operates in UK and 110 other countries and territories worldwide. The main goal of British Council is to build the UK's role as a leading provider of educational and cultural opportunities.

India is the British Council’s largest operation worldwide. It operates as a division of the British High Commission and has offices in the four main metros as well as a network of 11 libraries. Through its centres and programmes it promotes the diversity and creativity of British society and culture. The activities in India focus primarily on: education, library and information services, arts and culture, climate security, rights and society and science.

The agenda of environmental security has been debated at the international arena for sometime now. In India, British Council envisages initiating a new project focusing on Climate Security.


THE OPPORTUNITY

The British Council envisages initiating its Climate Security Project (Low carbon Futures) in India and Sri Lanka focusing on mitigating the effects of climate change in an urban environment. The project involves working with wider selected networks involving multiplicity of stakeholders and with wider young audiences’ to influence action and to bring about extensive buy-in respectively. British Council therefore is looking to recruit dynamic individual to put together and lead a team, design, implement, deliver and evaluate the climate security regional project in the India and Sri Lanka region.

The incumbent would be responsible for managing, monitoring and evaluation of the project according to established standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Put together and lead a team to design the project and achieve necessary buy-in and sign-off from key stakeholders.

· Make arrangements for the necessary market research to support the case for the project and build British Council global products into the project appropriately.

· Manage and deliver project according to the agreed project plan and manage variations from project plan.

· Identify, manage and secure agreement with partners and stakeholders and manage relationships with these organizations during the project.

· Develop and maintain an evaluation plan for the project.

· Evaluating the impact of the project and ensure that results of the evaluation are shared within the team, with partners and with the senior management team.

· Identification and recruitment of the right human resource necessary for the delivery and management of the project. Manage the project team and complete performance management requirements for team members. Motivate and empower the team

· Manage communications related to the project. Ensuring that stakeholders have an appropriate level of information about the project and about its achievements.

· Ensure dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders, partners and team members.

· Financial management of the project budget.



MUST HAVE

· Minimum seven years of successful program management focus with proven results in effective conceptualization, implementation and evaluation.

· Excellent abilities to engage with multiple stakeholders, specifically regulatory

authorities, government agencies, other non-profit organizations and financial

institutions, through leadership and innovation.

· Strong team management skills with proven leadership capacity.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to network and build relationships.



PREFERABLE

· The candidate should have experience of event management and working to build professional networks

· Understanding of the environment space.
