We lost our beloved Sanjoy Nandy-PRM 2 on Nov 25, 2006 under very tragic circumstances (suicide!!!).
Just to give you a background as gathered in person by some of our classmates:
Towards the end of 2004 when Sanjoy was working with an International NGO (working in Health space) at Kolkata apparently spoke his mind on a TV channel about the inefficient way in which the Government of West Bengal was implementing its AIDS programme. That interview thereafter got wide attention in the local press too, and the accused didn't obviously like the whole thing. The State authorities did not like it at all and put pressure on that INGO and eventually the INGO management forced Sanjoy into resigning from his job. Around the same time Sanjoy lost his mother. Together these two events shook Sanjoy.
Later Sanjoy joined in an NGO based at Kolkata, which is working on various social development projects the country. As this NGO has been going through financial difficulties, the employees went without salaries for several months, Sanjoy – the true leader he was - apparently refused to collect his salary too. That strained his financial position.
There are four dependents - His wife, two sons and a daughter. Somnath is the eldest son.
Most critical need is the money to take care of the children's education. We are working out the modalities of trust/entity/memorial fund etc, but at this stage I earnestly request you to pledge some money for our endeavors. You could let any one of us to about the money you can pledge. We shall advise you soon on the modalities of remitting it, once we have the memorial trust in place.
