Democracy Connect - Meet our young MPs’ young tutors: B-school grads from US

From “gisting” the Sachar Committee report to “demystifying” the Budget document or “explaining” the finer points of the Indo-US nuclear deal, they have done it all. Meet the team of Democracy Connect (DC), “tutors” to some of our first-time Members of Parliament (MPs).

Since the time it was set up in 2005, the group has been providing “intellectual input” on demand to our young MPs — all free of cost. Their “clients” cut across party lines: Sandeep Dikshit and Jitin Prasada from the Congress, BJP’s Dharmendra Pradhan, NCP’s Supriya Sule and MDMK’s A Ravichandran are a few names on the list.

A small beginning

Yesterday Bihar development Trust made a small beginning by holding a small programme on voter awareness and local governance in Bhagalpur. The municipal corporation elections are going to be held on 26th may 2006. The basic agenda was to make the common voter aware about their rights and make them knowledgeable about what happens or in other words what ought to happen in a municipal corporation and how can they exercise their voice even after the candidates are elected. There were around 200 people collected in a local ground. Other agenda was to provide a platform where the candidates and voters can come together and discuss the local issues and voters know the views of their candidates in developing their wards. 5 candidates of the ward also came and presented their agenda for next five years.
